Jugo naturale - natural fruit juice. Bolivia's climate gives way to a variety of fresh fruits year round. We can't stop drinking juice.
Some other awesome fruits we've encountered are:
Chirimoya - outside looks like a green dragon egg but the inside is sweet and milky.
Maracuyá - passion fruit. a little sweet and a little tart
Tumbo - banana passion fruit. It's a longer version of the passion fruit.
Mocochinchi - dehydrated peach cider. We saw giant plastic containers of these on the streets and couldn't help but try one. Nice and sweet and full of cinnamon.
Chuflay - Sangani mixed with a Sprit or 7-Up. Sangani kind of tastes like a mix of pisco and rakia, burns just the right amount.
Sopa de mani - potato and peanut soup. Doesn't taste much like peanuts like we had assumed. We got the option of adding a chicken foot in our soup - Peter chickened out.
Salteña - a juicy meat filled pastry. These are really good, like REALLY good.
Cherimoya is also grown in Taiwan. sometimes you can find in US Asian market. but I think Taiwan variety is the best.
ReplyDeleteI remember the cherimoyas in Taiwan. They were really good. I can't say which ones are better. Probably need to try more!
Deletemmm salteñas!!! Used to get those from the Bolivian market in Arlington
ReplyDeleteOoo! We'll need to make a trip there when we get back. Maybe multiple trips.
